So, the first Les Saintes Regatta took place.

Creating a new competition which aims to be international, like the regattas of the Caribbean Islands, such as the week of Antigua, the Heineken Regatta, the Voiles de Saint Barth, the week of Grenada and the RORC 600mn, is not no small feat. You have to find your place, your originality to become essential. There is still a long way to go. We are counting a lot on the Caribbean Sailing Association (CSA) to help us in the choice of dates and communication with the many prestigious boats that come to the Caribbean for the racing season. Thank you to the Guadeloupe Region for listening to us for this beautiful regatta project in habitable sailing.

We must highlight, and thank, the investment of the Town Hall of Terre-de-Haut des Saintes which made this first edition a friendly and festive event during this Carnival period. A magnificent trophy, created by Alain Marc Foy, was awarded by Mayor Hilaire Brudey to the Pepsi-Max boat of the BlueShark association and to skipper Sacha Daunar. This is intended to be put back into play at each edition of the Saintes Regatta.

For this first, around ten boats responded. We had the pleasure of having Rodolphe Sépho present on his DIAM-24, a sports trimaran, which allowed us to witness the performance of this boat and Rodolphe’s know-how. The weather conditions were complicated over these four days with strong winds and a few squalls. We had to deplore a few breakages but this did not in any way disturb the commitment and the pleasure of our sailors.

To close this event, we took advantage of the presence of three identical boats from the Yacht Club de Saint Francois to organize a special event where the skippers “fought” on equal terms: proof of the excellent atmosphere and spirit of friendship within the great family of sailors.
